Attorney Shawnam Osman is an Associate Attorney at the Law Offices of Johanna Herrero. Shawnam is a former refugee from Kurdistan where her family fled persecution. Shawnam’s identity as a Kurdish-American and experience as a former refugee shaped her decision to pursue a career fighting for human rights. Attorney Osman is a 2019 graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Suffolk University.
Attorney Osman assists clients in the firm’s Asylum Department and its Special Immigrant Juvenile Department. Shawnam zealously pursues her clients’ interests and protects their rights before the Executive Office of Immigration Review, USCIS and Probate and Family Court throughout the Commonwealth. Attorney Osman handles defensive Asylum cases, Waivers of Inadmissibility, Naturalization, Cancellation of Removal for Permanent Residents and Non-Permanent Residents and Motions to Reopen.
While in law school Shawnam was a MA 3:03 certified student attorney in Migrant Justice Clinic where she worked on asylum cases, engaged in immigrant rights’ advocacy projects and conducted intakes at immigration detention centers. She also served as a legal intern at Greater Boston Legal Service’s immigration department. Prior to joining the firm, Shawnam worked in-house at a Boston based start-up company.
Attorney Osman is actively involved in her community and serves on the board of nonprofit charities that work to provide education in underprivileged regions globally and to promote civil engagement in immigrant communities here in the United States.
