Jonathan is the Supervising Attorney at the Law Offices of Johanna Herrero, and handles complex legal matters; particularly with emphasis on the firm’s “crimmigration” matters in defensive and affirmative forms of relief. To address the needs of detained clients and their families during a complex and sensitive time, Jonathan makes himself available 24/7, and frequently travels throughout the Commonwealth to ensure efficient communication between all interested parties.
Jonathan represents the firm’s detained and non-detained clients and regularly appears before the Executive Office of Immigration Review, the Board of Immigration Appeals, the District Courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court, Massachusetts, and the First Circuit Court of Appeals. Jonathan also handles motions to reopen, waivers of inadmissibility, post-conviction relief, appeals, and stays of removal. Jonathan zealously pursues his clients’ interests and protects their rights in a multitude of affirmative and defensive matters in both civil and criminal contexts. Jonathan has represented individuals in a wide spectrum of legal matters, including but not limited to criminal, family and probate, corporate formation, contracts, licensing, intellectual property, insurance, compliance, residential/commercial real estate, and estate planning.
Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan operated as a solo practitioner in his general practice. Jonathan is a second-generation Asian American with deep roots, understanding, ties, and appreciation of the immigrant community. His affinity for zealous advocacy is derived from his passion to be the voice that is often left unheard and desire to serve the people that make our community. As such, Jonathan has offered a variety of pro-bono services to facilitate the well-being of his community, particularly for underprivileged families. Jonathan has proudly served his clients on a pro-bono basis in a variety of matters, often in collaboration with non-profit organizations.
Prior to joining the Law Offices of Johanna Herrero, Jonathan served as an Associate Attorney of a nationally recognized immigration firm operating out of Framingham, Massachusetts with focus on asylum, family and probate, and civil matters. While attending New England Law, Jonathan served as a Law Clerk for a globally recognized immigration law firm specializing in representation of employers, employees, and families around the world. Jonathan also served as Law Clerk for a Massachusetts District Court judge, the Honorable Antoinette Leoney, throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in criminal and civil matters. Jonathan has also previously served as a Law Clerk in the Drug Task Force and Economics Crime Unit of the United States Attorney’s Office. Prior to his legal career, he served as a Legal Intern at the Dorchester District Court as a Criminal Justice and Sociology major. Jonathan was selected to Massachusetts Super Lawyers List in 2017, as a Rising Star. Only 2.5% of lawyers in the state were selected for this honor.
